Day 4 - 31st May, Mums birthday
We were up very early again as this time difference and travelling is still affecting sleeping patterns. We waited till about 7.30 before Mez went to look for a coffee, as we have no supplies yet. Nothing opened, they are night owls so nothing much open early.
We had booked a 4 hour bike tour for today, touring the city. Found the meeting place okay and got instruction on how to use electric bikes. These bikes are soooo good so easy to ride. Lyon has many hills and thanks to these bikes it was pretty much a breeze getting to see the sites. The guide was excellent and gave us a very interesting and historical story of the city. 2 hours into the ride we stopped at a small cafe for drinks, bread( OMG French bread is to die for), salami and cheese. Very nice. Great bike tour of the city well worth it.
One of the stops in a large park that houses a small zoo. It was designed after Hyde Park in London.
We rode along both the Saone and the Rhone Rivers that cut through the city. The architecture is a result of the silk industry developing in the 15th century with King Louis XI. They needed rooms with very high ceilings to accommodate the large machines worked by hand. Life expectancy for males back then was early 30 due to the hard labour of developing the silk.
The weather was kind today not too hot and a little cloudy, perfect bike riding weather.
Straight after the bike ride, we headed to The Elephant and Castle an English style pub to see what was left of State of Origin match number one. We weren't sure if they would be playing it but luckily for us we caught the last 30 minutes of what looked like a great game with NSW winning, fantastic. I know you are all thinking WHY would you be interested in a footy game when exploring this beautiful city! I guess we are just footy fans through and through.
From there we walked and walked looking for a supermarket to buy some brekkie supplies. No such thing as an 'our style' of supermarket anywhere to be found only a small 7/11 style store.
Heading out to dinner to night to a restaurant recommended by our bike tour guide - Abel Bistro. Will keep you posted.
Restaurant was very nice but we think that we might have been 'Asian conned', it was not a restaurant that would have suited our guide. Probably a relatives restaurant but food was good and people friendly.Happy Birthday Mum, love you. ❤️

I would expect you to keep an eye on the football wherever you are. Those games can't tip themselves!
